Separate eligibility from tax treatment
Being eligible for a plan does not answer how owner premiums should be reported or deducted. S corporation shareholders, partners, and sole proprietors can have different treatment. Have your CPA review the actual entity and ownership; Benefit Experts does not provide tax advice.
Check the small-group requirements
Do not rely on a universal two-person enrollment rule or a fixed participation percentage. Confirm whether the business has qualifying employees and how the carrier treats owners, spouses, family members, valid waivers, and contributions. Washington OIC describes small-group options for businesses with 1–50 employees, subject to eligibility requirements.
