Benefit Experts

Who we serve / Transportation & trucking

Benefits that travel with your drivers.

Benefit Experts helps Washington employers turn workforce needs into a benefits plan. Start with where drivers live, where routes take them, and when they can enroll. Local delivery, regional freight, and long-haul fleets need different network conversations.

Start with these three decisions.

Share home locations, regular routes, pay structure, and the next renewal date.

01

Routes and home addresses

Check access near home and along regular routes, including routine care outside Washington.

02

Pay and hours

Mileage, load, and hourly pay need accurate payroll records for eligibility and applicable ACA work.

03

Enrollment away from the terminal

Use yard meetings, individual conversations, and live virtual sessions to reach drivers between runs.

Check the network against the route

A plan’s name does not establish nationwide access. Confirm the exact network, participating providers, and rules for care outside the service area. Emergency protections are a separate issue; they do not make all out-of-state routine care in-network.

Separate an occupational exam from preventive care

Ask how the plan treats DOT exams and any follow-up testing. A work-required exam is not automatically a covered preventive service. Check medical, equipment, and prior-authorization provisions for related treatment with the plan, without assuming the certification exam and treatment have the same coverage.

A practical example · illustrative

A regional fleet

For drivers based in Tacoma who regularly travel to Boise, compare routine care near both locations and the plan’s out-of-area rules before comparing deductibles.

Coverage to compare

Availability, eligibility, and benefits depend on the proposed plan and its current terms.

Medical networks
Compare regional and broader networks against actual home ZIP codes and routes.
Disability and life
Review definitions of disability, waiting periods, earnings used to calculate benefits, and occupational limits.
Dental, vision, and voluntary options
Compare usable networks and covered services. Supplemental accident or hospital coverage does not replace medical insurance.

From comparison to enrollment

We help connect the benefits decision with the people using and managing the plan.

  1. 01 / PLAN

    Map the needs

Share home locations, regular routes, pay structure, and the next renewal date.

  2. 02 / COMPARE

    Review the tradeoffs

Compare actual plan costs, access, contributions, and the questions payroll or specialist advisers need to resolve.

  3. 03 / SUPPORT

    Help the team enroll

We provide group, individual, and live virtual education, including shifts, multiple visits, new hires, and support after enrollment with the session scope confirmed before enrollment for client teams.

Before you get started

Can owner-operators join the employee plan?

Do not assume a 1099 payment or job title settles classification or plan eligibility. Confirm the actual working relationship with an adviser and the plan’s eligibility rules. Individual coverage may be a separate path for independent operators.

What administration is included?

Employee Navigator is available and customized at no extra cost for group clients who want it. Benefit Experts trains company administrators to enter new hires and terminations; Benefit Experts handles carrier changes. We coordinate third-party COBRA administrators that send and track notices. Vendor fees may apply, with waivers for some groups based on size and benefits package.
